This is the SENIOR department in the school,both in the seniority of its members and in the fact that it is the regina artium (queen of the arts) as the most senior discipline & mother of the others. It represents two of the ten 1783 charter subjects, of which only 7 still exist in 4 departments: Classics, English, Math & Music.
